Job Summary

This position is responsible for the analyzing petrophysical well-logs, geophysical data, and geological data to correct problematic log data for seismic inversion and additional models. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs log data gathering/verification 
  • Performs basic well log editing (splice, patch, depth shift, environmental correct, normalize) 
  • Generates, archives, and communicates log quality issues using log plots, crossplots, histograms, and data reports 
  • Communicates with other GT departments and BU’s regarding log-related issues 
  • Prepares petrophysical data (including lab rock data) and ancillary information for input into models 
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Job Specific Skills

  • Competent practitioner in one or more petrophysical software packages
  • Advanced competence in identifying bad hole, editing poor quality data, splicing, depth shifting, and normalizing log data
  • Perform parameter selection or raster information forensics to apply appropriate environmental corrections
  • Detail and results-oriented; organizationally skilled
  • Capable of handling a variety of requests and prioritization to deliver data on time


  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree - from accredited university - Geology, Geophysics, or related degree field


  • Minimum: 5 - 8 years related work experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience as a wireline logging engineer; advanced knowledge of logging operations is desirable 
  • Experience with multi-well field studies that incorporate data from multiple vendors over different time periods
  • Experience manipulating data in Excel and other packages such as Spotfire
  • Experience with advanced sonic data and waveforms is a plus
  • CPDA (Certified Petroleum Data Analyst) certification
