Job Summary

This supervisor position plans, coordinates, and executes system support and enhancement activities for one or more of the following functions: network, field wireless, data center, server, database, and cloud. This leader will use their subject matter expertise to set technical strategy, execute on strategy, and support and coach staff toward strategy execution and personal career growth. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with IT counterparts and business customers
  • Develops a strong working knowledge of clients' and users' business in order to provide effective IT support and solutions
  • Develops IT business and resource plans that support both the long-term and the short-term objectives of the department
  • Manages areas of responsibility within approved budgets and staffing levels. Prepare management reports as needed
  • Evaluates external advancements in the IT industry to improve customer/user satisfaction, reduce operating expenses and maximize revenues and/or efficiency
  • Provides employees with guidance in handling policies, procedures, and service standards
  • Provides on-the-job training, performance assessment, coaching, motivation, and counseling to employees to encourage optimum performance and continued skill development. Effectively plan and manage the organization and utilization of people and technology
  • Reviews, approves, and/or maintains departmental administrative records and reports such as: timecards, vacation requests, status changes, and expense reports
  • Provides direct supervision of personnel; participates in decisions involving hiring, promotion, compensation, and termination of employment
  • Leads the installation and configuration of company LANs, WANS, telecommunications, and wireless networks
  • Leads the monitoring and continuity of licensing and maintenance agreements, if applicable
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Specific Skills

  • Knowledge of administrative procedures in order to prepare and maintain reports, budgets, and administrative records as required
  • Ability to provide on-the-job training, performance assessment, coaching, motivation, and career development to employees
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and the coordination of people and resources
  • Ability to ensure all employees are operating within all Chesapeake, state, and federal guidelines, policies, and regulations
  •  Demonstrate expert understanding of systems applications, hardware, software, and company specific applications / processes
  •  Expert troubleshooting and ability to use logic to find hidden problems and look beyond the obvious
  • Expert ability to communicate written and verbally with all levels of co-workers, customers and external contacts
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, network and applications
  • Knowledge of data center, server, and database operations
  • Knowledge of public cloud administration 
  • Ability to effectively use diagraming software to map network topography
  • ISP vendor management, circuit procurement and troubleshooting experience 
  • Exposure to integrated wireless/RF systems, hardware and firmware

Education

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree - from accredited university - IT, MIS, Computer Science or related field

Experience

  • Minimum: 5 - 8 years related work experience
